Running projects is the heart of activities carried out by a Rotary Club. Apart from the projects brought by Rotary International on a global basis, each Rotary Club seeks to benefit its immediate community by accomplishing projects at a club level. On average, the Rotary Club of Ampang accomplishes about a dozen projects every Rotary year. The Rotary Club of Ampang carries out various public service projects every year. Each unique club project seeks to benefit the community in its own special way.
Such an example can be raising funds and awareness of the AIDS disease through participation in the riding for life project. Other projects include a public health camp organized for the poor to raise awareness and provide medical treatment for the poor. Other usual projects include visitation to orphanages, sponsoring of speech therapy rooms for stroke victims. Christmas parties for the forgotten elderly and school uniforms for poor students.
One of our outstanding and ongoing projects will be the Kajang Prison Library project. The Rotary Club of Ampang spearheaded the project to build a library in a juvenile prison for the benefit of its teenage inmates. We are proud to announce that the effort to build a library has brought positive awareness and today the inmates benefit from a modern computer labs, a secondary school and an expended library stands on the roots of our efforts.
It must be noted that not all Rotary Club of Ampang’s projects are outward looking, some of our projects include vocational trips for members of the club and friends to learn about the different vocations and how it inspires better living. There are training workshops, conferences, fellowship trips and such for club members and their families.
To sum it up, the best experience that any Rotarian or potential Rotarians can gain is to participate in a club’s project and enjoy the fellowship as we work hand in hand to make this world a better place.
