Advance Tertiary College (ATC)'s own chapter of Rotaract Club was formed through the initiatives of several likeminded students in the college who are committed to serving the community and also developing themselves professionally, while expanding their network of friends. Most of these students were member of Interact Club, another youth service organization by Rotary for students between the ages of 14 to 18.
The origin of the club can be traced to late August 2007 when a group of college freshmen approached Mr. Lazarus Jansen, the Head of Student Services to form a Rotaract Club. The request was then duly approved, and Mr. R. Saravanan was assigned as the club's Faculty Advisor. A pro-term committee was set up, headed by CP Kwong Chiew Ee. The club then held its first interest meeting on 15th September 2007, in the presence of IPDRR Dinesh and the then District Rotaract Coordinator (DRC), PP Mansoor Saat and Deputy DRC, PP Donny Kwa.
Less than a month later, with the initiatives of PP Donny and the approval of IPP Fiona Bodipalar who was then the Rotary Club of Ampang's President, the club was given its Provisional status and was taken under the wings of the Rotary Club of Ampang. The memorandum of understanding of the sponsorship was signed on 20th October 2007 between the RC of Ampang and Advance Tertiary College, represented by Mr. Rueben de Rozario.
The club was presented with its official charter from the Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois by the then District Governor, Dr. Joe Rajendran in March 2008.
The club has adopted a foster home called Chrestus Home in Taman Cuepecs, Cheras as its Community Service project. This has become a flagship project for the club. As part of the project, members of the club visit the children in Chrestus on a consistent basis with the goals of helping them emotional growth. In the near future, the club plans to conduct special classes for these children to develop their soft skills.
Although still in its infancy, the club has proven its mettle. It was awarded the Best Rookie Club in Rotaract District 3300 in 2008, and became the first rookie club to achieve the RI Presidential Citation and DRR Citation in its first year of service. Indeed, this club, Which is spearheaded by a group of future legal eagles, will soar high in many years to come.
